Welcome to the Milligan Libraries website!

Open Milligan Library homepage in another browser window to work through this tutorial side by side.

Welcome to Milligan College and welcome to the Milligan College Libraries website! This website serves both the P. H. Welshimer Memorial Library and the Emmanuel Christian Seminary Library. Whether you are on campus or hundreds of miles away, this website is your gateway to the resources and services of the Milligan College Libraries.

What is this box?

This tutorial is an online guide that will introduce you to the Milligan College Libraries resources and services in real time on a live website.

Move through the guide by using the arrows at the bottom of the box.

Use the actual website to complete the guide activities.

This tutorial is an introduction to the features on the Library website. (If you need to search for resources right away, it would be best to start with the Introduction to MCSearch tutorial.)

Let's get started!

Let's start by looking at the RIGHT sidebar. Depending on your device, you may need to pop out this information from the right hand side.

Look below our tagline:

It's your library image

You will see the hours for both the Welshimer Library and Seminary Library. Below the hours is contact information for the libraries. You can reach us by chat (during certain hours), phone, email and in person. We encourage you to contact us if you have any questions. We are here to help.

What is a way that you CANNOT contact that Milligan Libraries' staff?

Continuing down the right hand sidebar.

You can follow news about the Milligan College Libraries on our Blog, Twitter, and Facebook. Click on the icons for more information. (These may be disabled when the tutorial is running).

If you are in the area, you might want to Reserve a Study Room. There are 12 rooms of various sizes between the two library locations. Many have whiteboards and some have data projectors. Contact the library staff for more information about the rooms.

The last item in the right sidebar is the Latest News from our Twitter feed. If we are having any database issues or connection problems, we will report them here.

Milligan students can reserve a study room online.

Depending on your device, you will see a black horizontal bar across the top of the page. This is the universal menu bar for the site. You may need to pop out choices from the bar to see the menu options. Click on the horizontal lines in the black bar.

Home--Regardless of where you're at on the site, clicking here will always get you back to the library homepage.

About--Hover over until the dropdown menu appears, or click the +. Here are some highlighted features:

  • Frequently Asked Questions--Find answers to question about library resources, policies, history and more. If you can't find an answer to your question here, please contact us.
  • Library Staff--A listing of library staff members, their job responsibilities, and contact information.
Info Literacy & Research Help--Find out about information literacy and how the library staff can help you. Note the hours that library staff are available to help you with research.
Catalog--Hover over until the dropdown menu appears, or click the + then select Milligan & Libraries Worldwide to search for books and media. Do NOT use the Catalog if you are searching for journal articles. (More about that later). If you have any questions, please contact us.

If I wanted to know if the library has printers, I would find that information in what section?

Continuing in this section.
Resources--Hover over until the dropdown menu appears, or click the +. This is a list of our major and specialty electronic tools and resources. Instructors may ask you to use some of these specialty resources for specific assignments. We have created tutorials for many of them. Find tutorials on the Tutorials tab on the Home page. If you have questions about any of these resources, please contact library staff.
Interlibrary Loan--We can get books, media and journal articles for you from libraries around the world. We have created a tutorial for Interlibrary Loan.  If you need additional help with Interlibrary Loan, please contact library staff.
College Archives--Resources related to the history of Milligan College are housed in the Holloway Archives at  Milligan College. Items related to the history of the Stone-Campbell Movement are housed in the Helsabeck Archives of the Stone-Campbell Movement at the Seminary Library. Some items, such as yearbooks, The Stampede (college newspaper), and old catalogs have been digitized and are available to browse or search online.
MCStor image
MCStor--A digital repository of archival and scholarly work produced by the Milligan College community. Contact library staff for more information.
To finish our brief tour of the Milligan College Libraries website, return to the Home page. Notice the prominently located tabbed box. This search and browse box provides you with another point of access to most of our major resources.
MCSearch logo
MCSearch tab--A portal to most of the library's resources. We strongly recommend completing the tutorials about MCSearch to make the best use of this resource. (Click on the Tutorials tab to see several tutorials about MCSearch.)
Books/Media tab--This tab is another point of entry to the Catalog. Use it to search for books and media in the Milligan College Libraries and in libraries around the world.
Journals tab--Search for journal titles (both print and electronic) that are held by the Milligan College Libraries. If you are looking for a particular journal title, such as the Journal of Biblical Literature, type the journal title in the box to check for availability. If you are looking for articles on a particular topic, search using the MCSearch tab instead.
Databases tab--All of our databases, those searched by MCSearch and those that are not, are listed here topically.
e-Reference tab--The Milligan College Libraries have a large collection of reference books in ebook format. Reference books are difficult to find in a typical MCSearch search, so we have listed many of our best reference titles here. They are arranged topically.
Tutorials tab--Did we mention that we have self-paced tutorials to help you use our resources? Check them out here!
This concludes our introductory tour of the Milligan College Libraries website. We encourage you to explore the pages of our site in greater detail at your leisure.
