Let's get started!

What is Mental Measurements Yearbook with Tests in Print database?

It is two products in one database.

1) Mental Measurements Yearbook provides users with a comprehensive guide to over 2,700 contemporary testing instruments. All MMY entries contain descriptive information (e.g., test purpose, publisher, pricing) and edited review(s) written by leading content area experts.

2) Tests in Print serves as a comprehensive bibliography to all known commercially available tests that are currently in print in the English language. TIP provides vital information to users including test purpose, test publisher, in-print status, price, test acronym, intended test population, administration times, publication date(s), and test author(s).

Note: This database gives information about the test, it does not give you the test. The test must be acquired using the publisher information in the database.  In most cases, this will involve a fee.

A new screen should appear.

What logo is in the upper left hand corner of the screen?

You are doing a research study, in which you want to measure participants' self control.

Type: "self control"

into the search box. Please use the "" to search for the exact phrase: "self control". Click "Search".

How many results did you get for the search: "self control"?

Let's look at one of the results.

Click on: Working Styles Assessment

The top part of the record provides an important overview of many aspects of the test, including:

  • Publication Date
  • Purpose
  • Population
  • Time required to take the test
  • Cost

For many of the tests, but not all, there will be reviews of the test written by experts. Scroll down below the blue horizontal bar.  This densely packed text includes outside reviews of the test, including strengths and weaknesses.

You should always read the reviews (if available) as they contain a great deal of information as to the ability of the test to measure what it says it measures.

REMEMBER: You will not find the actual test online. If you want more information and to see the actual test, then you must contact the publisher.
